Massive recall of Hyundai Venue vehicles announced in the US. The crossovers found a defect that threatens the health of passengers.

Hyundai Venue produced between September 17, 2019 and June 2, 2022 needs to be repaired. Such vehicles have been fitted with pyrotechnic-type seat belt pretensioners for the driver and front passenger, which can spontaneously deploy due to excess pressure in the pretensioner tube.

If this happens, metal fragments may enter the vehicle interior and injure passengers. Defective tensioners are manufactured by Samsong.

A total of 72,470 vehicles are subject to recall. Owners of recalled vehicles will be notified to take the vehicle to a Hyundai dealer. There, the seat belt pretensioner microgas generator and injection tube will be capped to prevent abnormal operation. The work will be carried out free of charge, and car owners who have already paid for the solution of the problem will be reimbursed for the costs.

The new recall applies to select Hyundai Venues that were already recalled due to a pretensioner issue in October 2021. The issue was reported at the time with Venues manufactured between March 8, 2021 and March 22, 2021, as well as a range of 2021 Hyundai Elantra, 2021 Elantra HEV, 2021 Genesis GV80 and 2021 GV70.

Last time, Hyundai said it would fix the problem by replacing the seat belt pretensioners. It remains unclear why the problem was not fixed the first time and the Venue part is being recalled again.
