The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS has set a new record for production cars with a naturally-aspirated engine on the Nürburgring. It completed the 20.8-kilometre track in 6:49.328 minutes - 10.6 seconds faster than the current 911 GT3. Jörg Bergmeister was behind the wheel.

The GT3 RS proved to be a bit over 10 seconds quicker around the 'Ring than the standard 911 GT3. That model lapped the circuit in 6:59.927 in February 2021.

"Considering the far from ideal conditions, with a strong headwind on the long straight of the Döttinger Höhe and cool asphalt temperatures, we are satisfied with this time. The 911 GT3 RS is setting new standards for aerodynamics and the chassis. Never before has a road car embodied so much motorsport" said Andreas Preuninger, Porsche's Director of GT cars.

The current 911 GT3 RS, like previous versions, is both a race car and roadworthy. Power comes from a 4.0-liter flat-six engine making 518 horsepower (386 kilowatts) at 8,500 rpm and 343 pound-feet (465 Newton-meters) at 6,300 rpm. The powerplant revs to 9,000 rpm. The only type of gearbox available is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The GT3 RS can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in only 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 184 mph (296 km/h).

Porsche claims the 992-generation 911 GT3 RS produces more than three times the downforce of the current 992 GT3 and twice as much downforce as its 991.2-generation GT3 RS predecessor.

The 911 GT3 RS with the track-focused Weissach package was equipped with the optionally available Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, sized 275/35 R 20 at the front and 335/30 R21 at the rear. The new 911 GT3 RS completed the previously standard shorter lap in 6:44.848 minutes.

In Germany, the 911 GT3 RS starts at €230,000. Deliveries in the US begin in spring 2023 for a base price of $225,250 after the $1,450 destination fee.
