A new piece of information about Volvo's future all-electric SUV. The car, called EX90, will get a simplified interface aimed at avoiding information overload.

Volvo has installed two screens in the EX90. The infotainment screen will be the larger of the two, and will be oriented in portrait mode. It will display navigation, media, and phone controls, as well as other information. The screen will also show different information depending on the context. For example, if you're driving, a bar at the bottom of the display will show media info; if you're on a phone call, it will have other controls; and if it's cold outside, defrost buttons may be displayed.

The smaller, landscape-oriented screen is placed behind the steering wheel. It displays driving information such as speed, directions, and range. The displayed content also changes based on context. Volvo plans to use the screen located behind the steering wheel to show drivers how much assistance they will receive. By using colors and driver info, the car will be able explain what it sees with its sensors and cameras, for example: lanes and other vehicles.

In the future, Volvo plans to allow their driver assistance systems to be used for unsupervised autonomous driving. The drivers will be responsible for knowing when it is and isn't safe to depend on the car's autonomy, which will be based off of information given by screens in the vehicle.

"It's all about providing you with the right information at the right time," says Thomas Stovicek, head of UX at Volvo Cars. "We want your driving experience to be focused, simple and safe. Since the car also understands its surroundings and you better than ever before, we can create an even safer situation by reducing mode confusion, distraction and information overload."

The Volvo EX90 all-electric SUV is set to be released on November 9.

As a reminder, earlier Volvo told about the sustainable materials of the EX90 interior, and also announced bi-directional charging.
