Revealed at the firm's annual Nio Day presentation, the new coupé-like EC7 is essentially a more rakish version of the recently revealed Nio ES7 SUV, and will follow that car into Chinese showrooms from May, 2023.
The EC7 is billed as a high-performance and luxurious proposition with a 'living room' interior and some of the most advanced software and hardware on the market - including a roof-mounted lidar device and 32 'high-precision' sensors for level 4 autonomous driving.
It rides on the same platform as the ES7, and measures 4968mm long, 1974mm wide and 2960mm between the wheels. Those dimensions line it up neatly against other mid-sized electric SUVs including the Q8 E-tron, BMW iX and the upcoming Polestar 3.
That means the EC7 also gets the same 652 hp (480 kw, 644 bhp), 850 Nm (627 lb ft) twin-motor, four-wheel drive powertrain and sprints from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds - slightly quicker than the ES7 thanks to its aero-optimised design.
EC7 comes with three battery options:
- 75 kWh battery, 490 km (304 miles) range
- 100 kWh battery, 635 km (394 miles) range
- 150 kWh battery and 940 km (584 miles) range
- The 150 kWh battery is only teasing as it is not on the market yet.
As with all other Nio models, the EC7 is compatible with the brand's Power Swap battery changing stations, which offer much faster refills than chargers.
The prices were also revealed: 75kWh battery - 488,000 yuan ($68,800) 100 kWh battery - 546,000 yuan ($78,000) EC7 without battery (BaaS) - 418,000 yuan ($59,800).
EC7 is set to commence its China deliveries from May 2023. Although there was no mention of a European launch during the unveiling, EC7's recent entry into the market with ES7 (EL7 outside China), ET5 and ET7 saloons paves way for an eventual roll out in Europe as well.
