The new battery swap station can store up to 21 battery packs, up from 13 in its predecessor and 5 in the first generation of the facility.

The third-generation battery swap station increases the daily service capacity of a single station to 408, a 30 percent increase over the second generation. NIO vehicles can change batteries at the new stations in as little as 2 minutes and 30 seconds, 20 percent faster than the previous generation.

NIO is equipping two LiDARs and two Nvidia Orin chips on their 3rd generation battery swap station to ensure a more precise collaboration between vehicles and the station. This will enable intelligent battery swap functions such as summoning and auto-parking that can be triggered by NIO's advanced technology, making swapping batteries easier than ever before.

The third-generation battery swap station uses NIO's self-developed HPC bi-directional high-power liquid-cooled power module, with a maximum efficiency of 98 percent and a charge/discharge power of 62.5 kW, thus improving battery charge/discharge efficiency, the company said.

At NIO Day 2022, in addition to its signature battery swap stations, NIO revealed a super-fast charging pile with up to 500 kW of power that will enable electric vehicles to charge much more quickly. Open for all brands of EVs, the ultra-speed charger offers an impressive peak current of 660 A.

If the vehicle is built on the 800 V platform, it can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in as little as 12 minutes. For 400 V models, that time is 20 minutes. NIO has equipped the ultra-fast charger with a 15.6-inch display and the company's own liquid-cooling technology, which allows the weight of the cable to be significantly reduced so that users can easily operate it with one hand.

NIO's third-generation battery swap stations and the 500-kW ultra-fast charger will be in service by March of 2023.
