The Ford EV will be built on the VW Group's Modular Electric Drive (MEB) platform, and is expected to be similar in size to the Volkswagen ID.4 electric crossover. The crossover will be manufactured at Ford's Cologne plant in Germany, where the now-discontinued Fiesta was once produced.
Ford's Valencia plant will also produce electric vehicles, but will not use the MEB platform. Ford aims to manufacture 1.2 million electric vehicles based on VW's MEB platform by 2028, and aims to sell 600,000 BEVs per year in Europe by 2026.
Great to see so many of our media friends today in our @Ford in Europe Design Center. Can't wait for 2023 to arrive, when we will pull the cover of our first electric passenger vehicle coming from #Cologne. #EVs #ElectricVehicle #NewYear2023 pic.twitter.com/3wH3ixEWCW

Martin Sander, Ford model e Europe, stated earlier that Ford will not rely on Volkswagen for software-defined vehicles and that the company will achieve its goals without external help. Ford is also restructuring its offerings and will prioritize future products, and will focus on the Cologne, Valencia, and Craiova plants for car production in Europe. The automaker has had success with the Mustang Mach-E, but needs to rapidly expand its electric lineup to compete with companies such as Tesla and Volkswagen.
