The all-new Lexus RZ 450e, the first fully electric SUV from the luxury automaker, is now open for pre-ordering in the US. While Lexus is promoting its electric vehicle as "different" from the competition, many are questioning if the RZ 450e can justify its price tag that's higher than Tesla's Model Y.

Lexus has been playing catch-up in the electric vehicle market, as parent company Toyota previously prioritized hybrids and fuel cells over fully electric vehicles. However, Lexus recently announced a full range of zero-emission EVs will be released by 2030, and the RZ 450e is the first production model from the automaker.

Built on the e-TNGA platform, the RZ 450e boasts a 71.4 kWh battery and 313 horsepower, offering a driving range of up to 220 miles. Its all-wheel-drive system and advanced steering controls promise a dynamic driving experience.

In terms of luxury, the RZ 450e comes equipped with a 14-inch touchscreen display, a 13-speaker sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, and more. The RZ 450e is offered in two trims: Premium and Luxury. Prices for the Premium start at $59,650 and the Luxury model is priced at $65,150. The Luxury version also includes safety features, advanced park, a 10-inch head-up display, acoustic front and rear side glass, and ambient lighting.

The RZ 450e features a sleek exterior with modern electric vehicle upgrades, such as the spindle body that maximizes aerodynamics. However, the RZ 450e will face tough competition from established players like Tesla, which offers its Model Y with a 330-mile range for a starting price of $54,990.
