Ferrari's CEO, Benedetto Vigna, has confirmed the automaker will introduce its first all-electric vehicle (EV) in 2026, promising it will be an emotional car providing a unique driving experience.

The Italian automaker, known for its combustion engine sports cars, is joining the electric vehicle revolution after developing several hybrid models, including the LaFerrari and the SF90 Stradale/Spider and 296 GTB/GTS plug-in hybrids. According to Vigna, Ferrari's EV will provide driving thrills through longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration, sound, gear-changing, and braking, which won't change with an electric powertrain.

In an interview with Automotive News, Vigna also commented on Tesla's functional cars, saying that the Ferrari of EVs will offer an experience as thrilling as their internal combustion engine (ICE) models, while Teslas are simply for getting from point A to point B. He credited Tesla for shaking up the automotive industry and kick-starting the electric revolution, stating that before Tesla, electrification used to happen too slowly.

Ferrari has set an ambitious goal to have 40 percent of its cars electric by the end of the decade, with 40 percent hybrids and only 20 percent gasoline-only models. In the near future, 55 percent of its models will be hybrids, with only five percent eschewing ICE altogether. To power its hybrids and EVs, Ferrari plans to develop and build electric motors in-house.

The Italian carmaker's promise to deliver an emotionally charged EV in 2026 signals a major shift for the automaker and a sign of the ongoing transition to electric powertrains in the automotive industry.
