Although the model will have the same name as the existing version, the upcoming Cayenne EV will be built on a different platform and boast an all-electric powertrain. The new EV will offer a lot of power, fast charging, and the latest rear-wheel steering technology, according to Autocar.

Porsche has previewed an updated version of the current-gen Cayenne, which has been its most popular product with 95,604 units delivered in 2022. Instead of introducing a new generation, Porsche has opted to give the model a comprehensive facelift that will keep it on sale for several years. However, rumor has it that Porsche is also developing an all-electric version of the Cayenne, which is expected to launch in 2026. The Cayenne EV will be built on the same platform as the next-gen, electric-only Macan, the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) underpinnings, which are being developed in partnership with Audi.

The Cayenne EV is expected to feature a different powertrain and boast a larger battery than the 100-kWh pack intended for the zero-emission Macan. Although the exact range of the electric SUV is unknown at this time, industry experts suggest it will be at least 300 miles (482 kilometers) in the EPA cycle to compete with rivals such as the Mercedes EQS SUV. The Cayenne EV will have fast charging capability of over 270 kW, thanks to 800V tech.

The Macan EV, which is scheduled for launch before the Cayenne EV, will offer up to 603 horsepower (450 kilowatts) and over 738 pound-feet (1,000 Newton-meters) of torque for the flagship version. It will also come equipped with rear-wheel steering and an electronically controlled rear axle differential lock. It is likely that the Cayenne EV will also come with similar features.

Although the upcoming Cayenne EV will have the same name as the existing ICE-powered version, the two models will be sold alongside each other for a number of years before Porsche will pull the plug on combustion engines.
