Lexus introduces the LBX, a compact luxury crossover with a hybrid powertrain delivering 136 horsepower. Positioned below the Lexus UX, this sleek vehicle shares its mechanical underpinnings with the Toyota Yaris Cross, but distinguishes itself with a more sophisticated design and a premium interior.

The LBX measures 4190 millimeters in length, 1825 millimeters in width, and 1545 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 2580 millimeters. Equipped with 18-inch wheels as standard, this petite Lexus is slightly larger than the Yaris Cross and weighs in at 1,280 kilograms. Customers can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, both paired with a continuously variable transmission.

Under the hood, the LBX features a hybrid powertrain centered around a three-cylinder, 1.5-liter gasoline engine. This setup delivers a combined output of 136 horsepower and a maximum torque of 185 Newton-meters. With these specifications, the LBX can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and has a maximum towing capacity of 750 kilograms.

In terms of suspension, all LBX models come with a MacPherson strut front suspension, while front-wheel drive variants have a torsion beam rear suspension and all-wheel drive models employ a double wishbone setup with an additional electric motor at the rear. Notably, the LBX incorporates lightweight materials such as an aluminum hood and molded resin wheel arches, rockers, and lower door sections to optimize weight reduction.

Inside the cabin, the LBX showcases a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, optionally complemented by a head-up display, as well as a 9.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with wireless connectivity available for Apple devices. Collaborating once again with Mark Levinson, Lexus provides a 13-speaker sound system with a subwoofer to enhance the audio experience.

When equipped with front-wheel drive, the LBX offers a cargo capacity of 332 liters with the rear seats in place. However, the all-wheel drive version may have reduced practicality due to the additional hardware. Despite being the entry-level model, Lexus assures that the LBX maintains the brand's commitment to quality and attention to detail. Notably, this model's development was primarily centered in Europe.

Production of the LBX is slated to commence by the end of this year, with availability in Europe and other markets expected in early 2024.
