The Honda Elevate stands out with its distinct appearance, featuring a chubbier and boxier design compared to its European counterparts, the HR-V and ZR-V. Emphasizing its SUV credentials, the Elevate boasts a tall nose and a large grille accentuated by a chrome strip that seamlessly connects the LED headlights. Although the profile may appear conservative by 2023 standards, the L-shaped LED taillights and generously sized tailgate unmistakably bear the Honda signature.
Value-Focused Interior with Modern Features
Stepping inside the new Elevate, one will find a cabin that prioritizes value without compromising on comfort. While the interior might not boast the lavishness of higher-end models, Honda has made efforts to enhance the overall experience. The analog dials on the instrument cluster are complemented by a 7-inch display, while the center console features a prominent 10.25-inch free-standing touchscreen housing the infotainment system. Noteworthy features include an electric sunroof, a wireless charging pad, rear A/C vents, and ample storage compartments throughout the cabin.
Safety and Practicality at the Forefront
In contrast to its rivals in emerging markets, the Elevate distinguishes itself by offering a comprehensive range of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), courtesy of the Honda Sensing suite. This means that drivers can benefit from a host of safety features, along with the assurance of six standard airbags. Furthermore, Honda takes pride in the Elevate's spacious cabin and generous cargo space, with a capacity of 458 liters (16.2 cubic feet).
Mid-Size SUV with Global Appeal
Honda describes the Elevate as a mid-size SUV, aligning with the segmentation of the Indian market. However, it is anticipated that the Elevate would fall somewhere between B-SUVs and C-SUVs in Europe. Measuring 4,312 mm (169.8 inches) in length, 1,790 mm (70.5 inches) in width, and 1,650 mm (65 inches) in height, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm (106.3 inches) and a generous ground clearance of 220 mm (8.7 inches), the Elevate's dimensions place it in direct competition with notable rivals such as the Hyundai Creta/Kia Seltos, VW Taigun/Skoda Kushaq, and Suzuki Grand Vitara/Toyota Hyryder.
Built on the Solid Foundation of Honda City
The new Honda Elevate is based on the platform of the popular Honda City sedan, benefiting from improved rigidity and a suspension setup focused on comfort. Under the hood, it houses a familiar 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol powertrain, generating 119 hp (89 kW / 121 PS) and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque, akin to its sedan counterpart. Power is transmitted to the front axle through either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed CVT. While no hybrid option is currently mentioned, Honda has confirmed plans for a zero-emission variant featuring a fully electric powertrain in the future.
Made in India, Destined for Global Markets
Production of the Honda Elevate will take place at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, India. This move is part of Honda's strategy to introduce five new SUVs to the local market by 2030. Interested customers in India can start placing their orders as early as July, with the launch in export markets to follow. As Honda expands its presence with this new offering, the Elevate aims to cater to budget-conscious SUV enthusiasts worldwide, delivering a compelling package that combines affordability, style, and versatility.
