Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer has admitted that the implementation of touch controls in their vehicles, including the finicky buttons on the steering wheel and the touch slider for temperature adjustment, has been a mistake and has frustrated customers.
In a interview with Autocar, CEO Thomas Schäfer basically admitted touch controls have been a mistake. The man in charge of the VW core brand said touch controls "definitely did a lot of damage" and the company "had frustrated customers who shouldn't be frustrated." Thankfully, Volkswagen plans to address this issue by eliminating the climate control sliders and haptic steering wheel buttons, starting with the next-generation Tiguan.

The upcoming Tiguan will feature a new touch-less arrangement with a rotary knob that has a built-in OLED screen for adjusting volume, ambient lighting colors, and selecting driving modes.
