Renault is gearing up to replace its aging Zoe with the highly anticipated Renault 5, an electric hatchback that rides on a new platform. Ahead of its official debut, the automaker has released a series of teaser images, giving us a glimpse of the vehicle's exterior design.

The recently published photos showcase a vehicle that pays homage to the original Renault 5 while incorporating modern and futuristic touches. The resemblance to the Renault 5 Prototype, which served as a concept for the upcoming production model, is striking. Thankfully, the car hitting the showrooms will be nearly identical to the eye-catching prototype. Although some details are still concealed under black camouflage, the overall design is promising.

Underneath the sleek exterior, the Renault 5 will be based on the new CMF-B EV platform. This platform has been specifically developed for Europe's B-segment electric vehicles and is expected to reduce production costs by up to 30% compared to the outgoing Zoe. This cost reduction is primarily achieved through the platform's shared components with Renault's CMF-B platform for internal combustion engine vehicles. Furthermore, the battery in the Renault 5 will be lighter than that of the Zoe, although specific details regarding its capacity have yet to be disclosed. Notably, the electric motor will be mounted at the front, distinguishing it from competitors like the Volkswagen ID.3.

The development of the Renault 5 takes place at the Global Production Engineering Center, situated near Paris. This facility plays a crucial role in replicating Renault's production processes and producing prototypes that represent future production models. From early mule phases to final pre-production trial vehicles, the center ensures that Renault models meet the highest standards of quality and performance.
