Volvo Group has published its results for the first half of 2023. The company delivered 1,442 electric trucks, compared to 409 in the same period last year.

687 of the 1,442 electric trucks were from the Volvo brand, but 748 units were from Renault Trucks – plus seven from the US brand Mack Trucks. The 748 Renault Trucks electric trucks are divided into 452 light-duty trucks and 296 heavy- and medium-duty vehicles. The Volvo and Mack brands do not distinguish between light and heavy-duty vehicles, although Volvo also offers electric trucks in a wide range of weight classes from 16 to 44 tonnes.

On a quarterly basis, Renault Trucks was also ahead of Volvo Trucks internally: 337 electric trucks were sold by the Swedish brand in Q2, 417 units by the French subsidiary – again split between 168 medium- and heavy-duty and 249 light-duty electric trucks. Mack delivered five electric trucks in Q2, meaning there were only two in the first quarter. That makes 759 electric trucks for the Volvo Group in Q2.

In addition, 165 electric buses were delivered, 136 per cent more than in the first half of 2022. Volvo CE’s construction equipment division delivered 430 electric machines in January-June this year, compared to 282 in the same period last year.

In addition, Volvo Group provides a glimpse into its order intake. For instance, 1,502 electric trucks were ordered in the first half of the year, six per cent below the same period last year. However, Volvo Trucks accounted for the lion’s share with 896 units (+10 per cent). Renault Trucks was even 24 per cent below the previous year with 582 orders – the lower order volume at Renault is also responsible for the six per cent decline across the group. Provided that production can keep up, Volvo should soon overtake Renault Trucks regarding deliveries. Between January and June, 24 units were ordered from Mack.
