The Porsche Macan EV is an electric SUV and will be the electric counterpart to Audi's Q6 e-tron. It is still in the prototype stage, but it has shed most of its camouflage, giving us a clear look at its design.

The EV version features a different front end with a split headlamp arrangement and a double-deck grille/intake treatment compared to the current Macan.

The doors - still with conventional pull handles, note - have a different shape as they roll inward toward the sill, giving the Macan more of a pinched waist this time around, but overall it's surprising how similar the EV and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) models look, given that they're built on completely different platforms and the Macan's basic design is approaching its 10th birthday.

The EV and ICE versions of the Macan will coexist for a few years as Porsche recognizes that not all customers are ready to make the switch to electric vehicles.

The EV is expected to have a powerful powertrain lineup, with cars built around the PPE electric platform having a maximum output of 603 hp (450 kW / 612 PS) and over 737+ lb-ft (1,000+ Nm) of torque, making it significantly more powerful than the most powerful version of the current combustion-powered Macan.

The exact timeline for the Macan EV's debut has not been confirmed, but it is anticipated to be revealed within the next few months, with sales starting in 2024.
