The new Ford Transit Custom Nugget camper replaces the previous model, which was introduced in early 2019, by switching to the latest Transit Custom body, which was unveiled a year ago. Blue Oval collaborated with Westfalia for the RV conversion, which includes all the typical features found in a small mobile home.

The 2024 Transit Custom Nugget has a roof that tilts, and its fabric folds itself to make lowering the roof easier. At an extra fee, Ford can add a solar roof to the camper to use the sun's energy to fuel the interior features. Other features include blackout blinds that roll up and stowaway locations built-in for the tables and chairs to be used outside.

It's roomy enough for two double beds and has swiveling captain's chairs for the driver and front passenger. In the rear, there is a bench for three with the option of heated seats, USB-C ports, and audio speakers. The Blue Oval includes a rear hot/cold shower as standard, and you can add a tailgate tent for an additional fee.

That 13-inch infotainment system runs on SYNC4 and comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There's also a separate 7-inch touchscreen in the "living area" to control the heating, water levels, battery level, and lighting. You can also adjust these settings from your smartphone using an app connected via Bluetooth to the vehicle. Ford also adds wireless charging and a standard 5G modem.

The 2024 Transit Custom Nugget offers all-wheel drive and independent rear suspension. For the first time, it will be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain borrowed from the Kuga PHEV. It employs an naturally aspirated 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor for a combined output of 230 horsepower.

The battery can hold 11.8 kWh and allow for an electric drive of around 20 miles (32 kilometers). The camper will be sold with both an eight-speed automatic transmission and a diesel engine that produces 168 horsepower.

The diesel will go on sale first, with customers able to place orders this month for delivery in spring 2024. The hybrid electric vehicle will come out within the next year. The cost in Germany starts at at €76,500 (around $83,000).
