A few days ago, Volkswagen announced the start of production in Emden, and now the company is opening pre-sales for its all-electric ID.7 sedan: starting today, customers can order the model in the Pro package with a range of up to 621 kilometers (WLTP) at a price of 56,995 euros.

The equipment of the starting model includes:

  • the augmented reality head-up display
  • the Discover Pro Max navigation system
  • 19-inch  black Hudson alloy wheels
  • Keyless locking and starting system
  • Driving Assistant Travel Assist
  • Lane Assist
  • Emergency Assist
  • Lane change assistant Side Assist
  • Rear Traffic Alert and Exit Warning
  • View of surroundings including reversing camera

At least some of these features may incur an additional fee later on. But for now, VW aims to promote a fully-equipped car with a higher profit margin. The cost of the later series version (without the extra equipment) is still unknown.

Other advantages of the ID.7, according to VW, include electronically controlled air vents, a glass roof (which can be switched from opaque to clear at the touch of a button) and voice control.

The only non-surcharge color is the moonstone gray/black combination. You can also order different packages: The Interior Package for 2,580 Euros includes electrically adjustable seats with memory and massage programs as well as 30-color ambient lighting. The Interior Package Plus for €4,450 includes additional airbags, a Harman Kardon sound system, and climate-controlled seats.

There is also an exterior package (2,260 Euros) with LED matrix headlights, tinted rear windows and a sensor-controlled tailgate. The Exterior Package Plus (€3,410) also includes progressive steering and DCC Adaptive Chassis Control with driving profile selection. A panoramic glass roof increases the price of this package to 4,585 Euros.

A heat pump (known from other electric VWs) is only available for an extra 990 euros. A folding trailer hitch with electric unlocking costs the same.

Like all Volkswagen electric cars except for the e-Up, the ID.7 is based on the MEB modular electric construction kit. The ID.7 features a new large 86 kWh battery, starting later, and a 210 kW permanent magnet motor (PSM). For the first time, VW is offering a big sedan with the ID.7 - but you can't tell at first glance that it has a big tailgate. It has a trunk with a capacity of 532 to 1,600 liters. However, the car is almost five meters long. If you need more space, you can wait for the ID.7 station wagon, which is expected to come out next year.
