The aesthetic choices for the new i5, and the 5-Series lineup in general, have elicited mixed reviews since their recent introduction. With the i5 Touring, the series will offer a somewhat more utilitarian variant. While the rear of this specific test model is concealed by camouflage, it gives us a reasonable indication of what the new addition will look like.
In terms of appearance, the front will closely mirror that of the sedan. The dark blue test vehicle features a black faux grille, black side air curtains on the front bumper, and a large black area on the lower grille. Unlike a previous i5 Touring prototype sighted a few months ago, this one does not sport notably athletic wheels or high-performance brakes with colored calipers.
Black and white camo extends over the entire rear section of the vehicle, starting from the B-pillar. The car appears to have roof rails, and it’s likely that the taillights will be the same as those on the sedan.

Internally, the i5 Touring will closely resemble its sedan counterpart. The redesigned shape will, however, offer more cargo space and additional headroom in the rear, making it more family-friendly or ideal for those needing to haul more items. Sneak peek images of the interior reveal the familiar BMW Curved Display from the i5 sedan, along with the same flat-bottom steering wheel.
The i5 Touring is expected to be available in configurations similar to the i5 sedan. Initially, the lineup will include an entry-level eDrive 40 with rear-wheel drive that generates 340 hp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The higher-end i5 M60 version will deliver 601 hp and 795 Nm (586 lb-ft) of torque, matching its sedan sibling.
