Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is gearing up to enter the electric pickup market. The company unveiled its VF Wild EV truck concept at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, providing a glimpse of a forthcoming production model.

VinFast describes the VF Wild's design as inspired by "the graceful flow of a superhero's cape in the wind." However, this silhouette doesn't evoke images of Batman perched on a Gotham City rooftop. The vehicle features side-mounted cameras to enhance its aerodynamics.

The truck boasts a five-foot-long (1524 mm) cargo bed with a power-folding mid-gate, similar to the Silverado EV, which extends the cargo space into the cabin. With the rear seats folded down, the VF Wild can accommodate loads up to eight feet (2438 mm) in length. Additionally, the interior includes a panoramic glass roof.

While Vinfast has not disclosed specific details about payload capacity, maximum towing capacity, electric powertrain, or the battery pack, we do know that the VF Wild concept measures 209 inches (5309 mm) in length and 79 inches (2007 mm) in width, placing it in the midsize truck category. For reference, a Ford Ranger measures 210.6 inches (5354 mm) in length and 75.5 inches (1918 mm) in width, while a Toyota Tacoma measures 213 inches (5410 mm) by 76.9 inches (1953 mm).

Tran Mai Hoa, Deputy CEO of Sales and Marketing at VinFast, stated, "This isn't just a new addition to our lineup—it reflects our ambition to enter the rapidly growing electric pickup truck market." However, the company has not provided a timeline for when a production version of the VF Wild might become available.

As of now, it remains unclear whether VinFast intends to sell the production VF Wild in the United States. If the vehicle receives approval for the U.S. market, it could potentially be manufactured at the company's $4 billion factory currently under construction in Chatham County, North Carolina. This would allow the Vietnamese automaker to bypass the "chicken tax," a 25 percent tariff on imported light trucks, ensuring competitive pricing against other midsize trucks.
