The size of the rear wing alone signals that this is not your typical Ioniq 5 N. With adjusted brightness and exposure in the official images, we can discern even more details, including an extensive body kit featuring aggressive aero elements, as evidenced by the substantial front splitter and rear diffuser. In the video below, you can spot carbon mirror caps and other modifications, including blue brake calipers.
If this design seems familiar, Hyundai showcased images of a similar Ioniq 5 eN1 Cup car at the N Festival in South Korea last month. While it's not clear if it's the same vehicle, that one also boasted a substantial body kit and managed to shed up to 551 pounds (250 kilograms) compared to the standard road-going Ioniq 5 N. Additionally, it featured an adjustable suspension that lowered the ride height by 2.8 inches (71 millimeters) compared to the production model.
The race car was equipped with 18-inch wheels wrapped in 280/680 R18 slick tires, complemented by six-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers. It featured polycarbonate side and rear windows, an air jack, a six-point FIA-compliant roll cage, and a kill switch in case of battery overheating.
Hyundai N appears to be gearing up to introduce the Ioniq 5 N into South Korea's inaugural one-make EV competition. Development is expected to conclude next month, with the eN1 Cup car hitting the track as early as May. Drivers will have the ability to simulate gear changes using the N E-Shift function, which functions like an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic.
Meanwhile, the NPX1 will make its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon on January 12th.
