It's also Lancia's first electric car, although hybrid versions with petrol engines will appear later.

The new Lancia Ypsilon shares design elements with the Peugeot 208/e-208 and other compact models of the Stellantis brands. However, outside and inside the car has received an original design in the style of the concept Pu+Ra HPE.

Three thin light strips at the front of the car and round taillights, in which a horizontal letter "Y" is embedded, look unusual. From the side, the hatchback clearly resembles related models Opel Corsa and Peugeot 208. Wheel arches are visually expanded thanks to black glossy overlays. There are additional black elements on the rear pillars, on which the rear door handles and the emblem of the Italian brand are located.

It's worth clarifying that the version pictured here is a special edition, limited edition, developed in conjunction with Cassina, the Italian manufacturer of premium furniture. It is likely that the more mainstream versions of the new Ypsilon will look less epathetic.

The interior is also quite different from that of the sister Peugeot. Two 10.25-inch displays are noticeable inside. Below the centre display is a block of physical climate control keys, and even lower down is an unusual circular area with wireless charging for a smartphone. There are three USB-C ports, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The hatchback also features a special filter for the air entering the cabin, which the manufacturer claims removes 99 per cent of harmful particles.

The electric version of the Lancia Ypsilon has a 115 kW (156 hp) motor at the front with 260 Nm of torque. The capacity of the battery pack is 51 kWh. It is probably the same battery as in the electric Opel Corsa and Peugeot 208. The range of the new Lancia car is up to 403 kilometres in the WLTP cycle. The claimed time of fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent is 24 minutes.

Although the old Lancia Ypsilon was only sold in Italy, its replacement will be offered throughout Europe. The first Ypsilon will appear in Italy. The Edizione Limitata Cassina version will be produced in a limited edition of 1,906 units. In Belgium and the Netherlands, the new Ypsilon will be available in the middle of this year. France and Spain will follow. And in 2025, the Lancia will arrive in Germany. Prices have not yet been announced.

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, the Ypsilon will also have hybrid versions and these will be the brand's last cars with internal combustion engines.
