The new Renault 5 EV will go on sale later this year with a starting price of €25,000.

The production version of the new Renault 5 E-Tech has been officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show as a modern reincarnation of the original Renault 5 from 1972. The hatchback follows much of the design of the 2021 concept version and promises a range of up to 400 kilometres. With a starting price of €25,000, the new Renault 5 will be one of the most affordable electric cars on the European market.

It is Renault's first production model based on the new AmpR Small architecture with multi-link rear suspension, which is essentially an updated and electrified version of the CMF-B platform from the Renault Clio and Captur. The hatchback is 3.92 metres long.

Among the original design features of the Renault 5 E-Tech is the battery charge indicator located at the top of the bonnet. The graphic panel illuminates whenever the car is connected to a charger. When the battery reaches full capacity, the LED display shows the number 5.

The interior combines retro elements and bright colours. The information panel consists of a display in front of the driver and a large screen of the infotainment system with connected Google services.

Renault has officially confirmed two battery pack options: 40 kWh and 52 kWh. Initially, the version with a 52 kWh battery pack and a range of 400 kilometres on the WLTP cycle will go on sale. In the future, the Renault 5 E-Tech will support V2G (vehicle-to-grid) technology, allowing owners to sell energy back to the grid.

The Renault 5 E-Tech will be manufactured in France at the new Ampere division of the Renault Group. The new electric car will compete with the VW ID.2, Peugeot E-208, Citroen e-C3 and Fiat 500e.
