Fiat has confirmed that the current generation of the popular model will be sold alongside the next generation electric Panda for at least another 3 years.

The current Fiat Panda was introduced back in 2011 and has since been manufactured in Pomigliano d'Arco near Naples. The car has turned out to be such a success for the brand that it continues to be produced even now, in 2024. Moreover, Fiat has introduced an updated version called the Pandina, which is what the Italians call the Fiat Panda.

The Fiat Pandina has received the Safety Systems Package (ADAS), which is mandatory for all new cars in the European Union. Standard equipment includes an advanced emergency braking system, lane keeping assist, driver fatigue monitoring and a traffic sign recognition camera on the windscreen. These are joined by automatic high beam, cruise control, rear parking sensors and six airbags.

The Pandina's interior is made a little more modern with a new 7-inch digital instrument cluster that has three different graphic modes. It's paired with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and a slightly revised steering wheel. Finally, the seats are upholstered in eco-friendly Seaqual yarn with the Pandina logo on the backrests and double contrast stitching.

The exterior follows the look of the Fiat Panda City Cross with some unique touches. The mirror housings are painted yellow and the wheel covers feature a cute panda face. the Pandina name can be found on the rear windows and side mouldings. In addition to the existing Panda colour palette (Gelato White, Cinema Black, Passione Red and Italia Blue), a special version in Positano Yellow has been added, which can be combined with a black roof.

Mechanical updates are not mentioned in the manufacturer's press release. This means that the Fiat Pandina will continue to use the 1.0-litre Firefly three-cylinder engine with 70 hp (52 kW) with a hybrid superstructure and a six-speed gearbox that sends torque to the front wheels.

Sales of the Fiat Pandina will start in major European markets in summer 2024, coinciding with the debut of the next-generation Fiat Panda. This seems to be the reason why Fiat chose a new name for the old model, allowing it to coexist peacefully with the new Panda.
