Rivian R2 is decorated in the corporate design of the brand and does not differ much from the senior model R1S. The interior of the new SUV has two screens and folding seats.
The five-seat R2 is much smaller than its R1S sibling: it measures 185.6 inches (4,715 mm) long, 84.4 inches (2,143 mm) wide including mirrors, 66.9 inches (1,699 mm) high and has a wheelbase of 115.6 inches (2,935 mm). It is 15 inches (381 mm) shorter than the R1S and less suited for off-roading. The R2 has 9.8 inches (249 mm) of ground clearance, an entry angle of 25 degrees and an exit angle of 27 degrees. The larger R1S has 14.9 inches (378 mm) of ground clearance and angles about 35 degrees.
Rivian R2
The Rivian R2 will be available with one, two or three electric motors. The single-motor unit will power the rear wheels, while the other two versions will be all-wheel drive. All three versions of the car can travel more than 300 miles (482 kilometres) on a single charge, and the most powerful version can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in less than three seconds.
The Rivian R2 will immediately come with Tesla's NACS standard charger, giving it access to Tesla Supercharger stations in North America. In the US, the Rivian R2 can be reserved now, although deliveries won't start until 2026 with prices starting at $45,000.
The Rivian R2 will compete with electric cars like the Tesla Model Y (US price from $43,990), Ford Mustang Mach-E (from $39,895), Kia EV6 (from $42,600) and Hyundai Ioniq 5 (from $41,800).
