Land Rover has recently updated its Defender lineup, four years after launching the L663-generation. This update includes both mechanical and cosmetic improvements as well as a trim structure reorganization.

The Defender's D300 diesel engine is now replaced with the D350 from Range Rover. This new engine generates 350 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque, improving performance by 50 hp and 50 Nm respectively. Jaguar Land Rover stated, "everything from overtaking to towing is even more effortless." The previous D300 model accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in seven seconds. A slight improvement in acceleration is expected with the D350.

The P400 petrol engine has been superseded by a more powerful 420hp supercharged 5.0-litre V8. Additionally, the plug-in hybrid variant sees an important change; the old two-litre four-cylinder is replaced by a new P300e model featuring a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine producing 305hp, previously used in Evoque and Discovery Sport PHEVs.

These updates ensure compliance with the Euro 6e emissions legislation. The adjustments aim to enhance efficiency while maintaining the rugged functionality for which Land Rovers are renowned.

Another noticeable upgrade occurs inside the Defender, particularly for the three-row Defender 130 model which can now be outfitted with a Captain Chairs Pack. This package replaces the middle bench with individual armchairs that are heated and ventilated, providing front-row comfort in the second row.
