This is our best look yet at the latest addition to Skoda's range of electric cars. The new model, called Elroq, is a compact SUV that will go on sale at the end of this year.

Newly released photos of the Škoda Elroq show it in skin-tight green and black camouflage, and it certainly looks familiar as a model from the Czech brand. The front end includes a small lower grille, while a Škoda badge can be found on the front skirt. The camouflage does a good job of hiding some of the finer details, but we can see that the front end is quite angular and includes a pair of sharp headlights.

Viewed from the side, the key elements that stand out are the short front and rear overhangs, the pronounced shoulder line and the shapely lines that run along the base of the doors. The flamingo graphic on the rear windows is a bit of fun, and Škoda says the Elroq has been fitted with wheels that have been "aerodynamically optimised". They will be offered in sizes from 19 to 20 inches and contribute to an overall drag coefficient of 0.26.

The all-new Škoda Elroq is based on the Volkswagen Group's Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) platform and will be available with four powertrain options: the Elroq 50, 60, 85 and 85x. These models vary in battery capacity and corresponding power output, ranging from 125 kW to 220 kW.

The entry-level Elroq 50 features rear-wheel drive with a gross battery capacity of 55 kWh and an electric motor on the rear axle developing a peak output of 125 kW. The Elroq 60 has a 63-kWh battery and a 150-kW electric motor. Both of these models achieve a top speed of 160 km/h. The Elroq 85 and Elroq 85x variants are equipped with an 82-kWh battery (gross). The rear-wheel-drive Elroq 85 has a peak output of 210 kW, while the Elroq 85x includes an additional electric motor on the front axle, offering all-wheel drive as standard and a peak output of 220 kW. Both versions, the Elroq 85 and the 85x, reach a top speed of 180 km/h and deliver an electric range of more than 560 kilometres.

All variants of the all-new Elroq support DC fast-charging although the maximum charging rates differ. The Elroq 85 and Elroq 85x offer DC charging at up to 175 kW. The batteries of all four powertrain versions can be charged from 10% to 80% in under 28 minutes. At AC stations all Elroq models charge at rates of up to 11 kW, completing a full charge in approximately 5.5 to 8 hours, depending on the model. The Škoda Elroq supports automatic and manual battery pre-conditioning. The battery pre-conditioning feature preheats the battery in preparation for DC charging in low ambient temperatures and thus optimises charging speed. The process can be started manually, by pressing a button on the central infotainment display, or automatically on the way to a charging station, based on navigation data and battery temperature.

Despite its compact size, the all-new Škoda Elroq offers plenty of space for passengers’ luggage. Its boot capacity of 470 litres can be expanded to as much as 1,580 litres by folding down the rear seats. There are also numerous storage options in the interior with a total capacity of 48 l, including several smart compartments. The compact SUV also marks the premiere of brand new Simply Clever features. These include a practical, optional storage net for a charging cable under the parcel shelf. The parcel shelf itself is adjustable, enabling flexible use of the cargo space. The Škoda Elroq also offers two additional storage compartments on the sides of the boot. Another new feature is a QR code in the boot. After scanning, it provides a quick overview of the equipment and functions available in the vehicle or shows interactive video instructions on how to use the parcel shelf or net systems, for example.

The Elroq offers a high level of passive and active safety. The assistance systems include Travel Assist featuring a greatly expanded use of swarm data in its latest version. The Intelligent Park Assist offers Remote Parking and Remote Trained Parking functions. With Remote Parking, drivers can control parking manoeuvres from outside the vehicle and up to four metres away, using a smartphone and the MyŠkoda app. Trained Parking enables drivers to “teach” the Elroq to remember approaches of up to 50 metres in length to a total of five different parking spaces. The Elroq is then able to drive there and park itself automatically. For a high level of passive safety, the all-new Škoda Elroq comes with up to nine airbags: airbags for the driver and front passenger, head airbags, front side airbags and a central airbag between the front seats are already on board as standard; rear side airbags are available as an option.

Sales of the all-new Škoda Elroq are scheduled to start at the end of this year. The introduction of the Elroq marks the beginning of Škoda’s new BEV campaign, which will see the launch of six battery-electric models over the coming years.
