The Freedom 125 is powered by a 125cc single-cylinder engine producing 9.5 hp at 8,000 rpm and 9.7 Nm at 6,000 rpm, with a claimed range of 330 km. It can switch between CNG and petrol with the flip of a switch.
The bike features a 2-liter petrol tank and a 2 kg CNG tank. The CNG tank weighs 16 kg when empty and 18 kg when filled. Bajaj claims the Freedom 125 delivers 102 km per kg on CNG and 65 km per liter on petrol. The estimated fuel cost is just Rs 1/km (0.012 USD), 50% lower than a comparable petrol bike. Emissions are reduced by 26% (CO2) and 43% (NOX)
The CNG tank is housed in a trellis frame and is certified by India's Petroleum & Explosive Safety Organisation (PESO).
The bike features a minimalist yet rugged design with a full LED headlight and taillight, and halogen indicators. The instrument cluster is a monochrome LCD display with Bluetooth connectivity. Both fuel tanks are accessible via a large flap on top, which also provides access to the air filter.
Weighing 147 kg, the Freedom 125 has a telescopic fork at the front, a linked monoshock at the rear, and an 825 mm seat height. It has passed 11 safety tests based on industry standards and Bajaj's own safety standards.
Bajaj plans to export the Freedom 125 to Egypt, Tanzania, Colombia, Peru, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. The company has a production capacity of 20,000 units per month, initially launching in Maharashtra and Gujarat, with plans for more CNG models in the future.
