Isuzu has added an electrified powertrain to its range. In Thailand, the Isuzu D-Max pickup and related MU-X SUV have received a new mild hybrid based on a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine.

The hybrid version uses a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine with a factory designation of RZ4F and a civilian designation of Ddi MaxForce. This engine produces 163 hp (120 kW) and 400 Nm of torque. According to Isuzu, the engine is quieter and more efficient than the previous one. However, the company has not yet disclosed data on the electric motor and 48V battery.

The turbo diesel is mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission. Isuzu claims that the new model has 56% more torque at start-up and saves 10% fuel compared to the standard diesel version.

In the D-Max range, the 2.2-litre engine is positioned between the base 1.9-litre 150 hp (110 kW) engine and the flagship 3.0-litre 190 hp (140 kW) unit. Both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic are available for these engines, but the hybrid is offered exclusively with an 8-speed transmission.

The electrified Isuzu D-Max and MU-X will be available in Thailand from 28 November. The D-Max mild hybrid pickup costs between 595,000 and 937,000 baht ($17,200-27,000), depending on the configuration. Prices for the MU-X SUV start at 1,194,000 baht ($34,435).
