Volkswagen believes that there are not many crossovers and has created another model of this type - Tera. The car, which resembles a smaller version of the Tiguan, made its debut in South America.

Externally, the Tera looks like a smaller Tiguan - an understated design in the traditional VW style. Originality is added by a small image under the rear wiper: the silhouettes of Beetle, Gol and the Tera itself are depicted on the glass. Older models will get two-tone wheels and black roof, but there are no LED panels as in global VW models.

In terms of dimensions, the Tera sits below the T-Cross and Taigo/Nivus, although all three models will be sold in Brazil. The new crossover is approximately 3,988 mm long.

The interior has been made as familiar as possible: physical climate control buttons instead of touch controls, conventional steering wheel keys and even a classic handbrake. This is a rarity for modern Volkswagen, which has recently been moving towards touch controls and compact switches.

Under the bonnet - 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo engine paired with automatic transmission. Base versions are likely to get a "mechanics". The platform is a simplified version of MQB A0, the drive is exclusively front-wheel drive.

The Tera will be produced in Brazil, and sales will start later this year. Main competitors: Fiat Pulse, Citroën Basalt and Renault Kardian.
