ZF will showcase a software noise reduction function for tire noise in the cabin at CES 2026 in Las Vegas without additional damping equipment or microphone systems that are typically used in premium vehicles.

The Active Noise Reduction technology uses the ZF Smart Chassis Sensor with an integrated accelerometer to measure vibrations transmitted through the chassis and then generates counter signals through semi-active damper valves to reduce noise.

The system analyzes vibration data using an algorithm that recognizes characteristic noise patterns in the tire cavity, usually at a frequency around 200 Hz. It then creates micro-movements in the shock absorber to counteract noise without affecting the main function of the device.

The current version of the system provides noise reduction of more than 3 dB, and in future versions, reduction up to 10 dB is possible. Mass production is planned for 2028. ZF reported that the technology can prospectively be applied to other actuators, including active brake noise reduction.

The CES 2026 exhibition will take place from January 6 to 9 in Las Vegas.
