The third generation of the electric crossover, known in the domestic Chinese market as the Yuan Plus, will officially debut on April 24 at the Beijing Auto Show. This time it is not just a facelift but a full-fledged overhaul of the model's architecture and technical philosophy.
More space for passengers
The new Atto 3 has noticeably grown. The body length is 4665 mm, which is 210 mm more than its predecessor. The width has increased to 1895 mm, and the height to 1675 mm. The most important thing for interior comfort is the wheelbase, which has been stretched by 50 mm, now measuring 2770 mm. Visually, the vehicle has become more solid: the closed front part with narrow optics and a continuous rear light add minimalism to it. New wheel designs of 18 and 19 inches have also appeared.
Under the hood: switch to rear-wheel drive
The main news under the hood (or rather under the floor) is the switch to a rear-wheel-drive platform. Buyers will be offered two options for powertrains. The base version gets a 57.545 kWh battery and a 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor, providing a range of up to 540 km. The top modification is equipped with a 68.547 kWh battery and a 240 kW (322 hp) motor, and the range reaches up to 630 km.
Even faster charging
One of the key advantages of the novelty is the Flash Charging technology. The manufacturer claims that replenishing energy from 10% to 70% can be done in just 5 minutes. A full charging cycle to 97% takes about 9 minutes. Even in harsh conditions at a temperature of -30°C, the charging time increases by only 3 minutes. In the cabin, digital minimalism reigns: a two-spoke steering wheel, a driving mode selector on the steering column, a large touchscreen, and a head-up display (HUD).
What about outside China?
BYD is currently selling the Atto 3 Evo crossover outside China with an updated powertrain and all-wheel drive. This vehicle has little in common with the new generation model for China, as it is an analogue of the previous iteration of the model.
