Volkswagen has shown several sketches of the new ID.Polo model, which will be officially presented on April 29.

Volkswagen Polo officially becomes electric. This hatchback will be named ID.Polo and, judging by the first official sketches, it will retain the recognizable silhouette but with a modern "digital" wrapper. Andreas Mindt, who currently heads the design of the entire concern, shared the first sketches of the upcoming model.

Design: between concept and reality

The appearance of the ID.Polo largely echoes the ID.2all concept we saw earlier. The released images show a continuous LED strip across the width of the tailgate, an integrated illuminated Volkswagen logo, and characteristic rectangular light blocks.

The front end received narrow optics that smoothly transition into the fenders. Despite being an electric car, the proportions remain classic for a hatchback: short overhangs and a long wheelbase. This will allow for an interior as spacious as in a Golf, even though the external dimensions will not exceed 4 meters.

MEB+ Platform

The ID.Polo is based on the new MEB+ architecture. Unlike the older ID family models, it features front-wheel drive. This same platform will be shared among the future Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq. The use of Cell 2 Pack technology, where battery cells are mounted directly into the body without separate modules, has allowed for increased energy density and reduced weight.

It is expected that buyers will be offered two battery options:

  • 37 kWh (lithium-iron-phosphate, LFP)
  • 52 kWh (nickel-manganese-cobalt, NMC)

Power and GTI Version

The powertrain will offer a wide power range: from modest 116 hp to quite driver-oriented 226 hp. The top variant will likely be designated GTI. If we focus on the technically close model Cupra Raval, the dynamics promise to be interesting: acceleration to "one hundred" could take less than 7 seconds.
