ONE has signed an agreement with the BMW Group to test the innovative ONE Gemini Dual Chemistry battery technology in the BMW iX electric vehicle. The developers claim that compared to existing analogues, new batteries are characterized by a higher charge storage density, as well as safer and more environmentally friendly. The system uses 20% less lithium, 60% less graphite, and "minimizes" the use of nickel and cobalt.
The BMW iX prototype with the Gemini battery is scheduled to enter testing by the end of 2022. It will first be used as a demonstrator to prove the performance of the new system under real-world conditions on a production machine, not just in lab tests. The range of the prototype is expected to be 965 km, which is almost double the range of the production BMW iX xDrive 50. At the same time, the possibility of mass production of Gemini batteries is only considered in the long term, if the tests are completed successfully.
