The BMW M3 Touring features design and performance features typical of the M3 Sedan, including a frameless grille, large side air intakes, massive wheel arches and side skirts that are noticeably wider than the original 3 Series. Other distinctive features are the "gills" in the front fenders and the exhaust pipes integrated into the diffuser of the rear bumper.
Regardless of the body color of the M3 Touring, its roof will be painted black as standard. It will be possible to obtain a uniform color of the entire car only as an additional option. By default, 19-inch wheels are installed in the front, and 20-inch wheels in the rear.
The BMW M3 Touring engine is a 3.0L six-cylinder. The characteristics of the unit are the same as those of the M3 sedan in the Competition version: power is 510 hp and torque is 650 Nm. It is mated to an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission and an M xDrive all-wheel drive system with an active differential on the rear axle.
In addition to the basic 4WD driving mode, you can switch to 4WD Sport with an emphasis on the rear wheels, as well as fully rear-wheel drive, which, when activated, disables the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) stabilization system.
Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers and M Servotronic variable ratio steering are standard on the BMW M3 Touring. The braking system offers two pedal sensitivity settings. As an alternative to the standard M Compound braking system, optional M carbon-ceramic brakes can be ordered.
Despite the fact that the station wagon is slightly heavier than the sedan, it is practically not inferior in speed. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.6 seconds (+0.1 seconds), while the sprint from 0 to 200 km/h is just 12.9 seconds. Selecting the optional M Driver package increases the electronically limited top speed from 250 to 280 km/h.
The M3 Touring is the first M model to feature the new iDrive 8 infotainment system with a curved touchscreen that combines a 12.3-inch instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch media suite. Until recently, such a system was installed only on BMW iX and i4 electric vehicles and some models of the brand with internal combustion engines.
The BMW M3 Touring will have its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June 2022. Dealers will start accepting orders for the new car from September, with production starting in November 2022. The BMW M3 Touring will be built alongside the BMW M3 Sedan at the BMW Group plant in Munich, Germany.
The sports station wagon will be sold only in Europe, for example, in Germany the price starts from 97,800 euros. There are no North American versions yet.
