According to Electrek, for the ambitious project, a truck from Designwerk from Switzerland was equipped with a 1000 kWh battery.
The fully electric snowplow is being used on the E6 highway, which runs through a mountain range. The purpose of the test is to determine the efficiency and reliability of the electric snowplow in harsh conditions.
"If we are to achieve the climate targets, we must have strong emission cuts also on the heaviest tasks we do on the roads today. That’s why we wanted to test plowing with an electric truck on the E6 over Dovrefjell." Jørn Laxforsmo from the Norwegian Road Administration told Electrek.
The first interim results are already available, and they indicate that battery electric vehicles are suitable for such extreme application scenarios. After nine hours of use, the battery level dropped from an initial 90 percent to 28 percent. The snowplow, based on a Volvo FH chassis, consumed an average of about 182 kWh per 100 kilometers.
