The all-electric Kia EV8 sedan is set to be the successor to the Kia Stinger. It will be the first production car on the new Hyundai eM platform, which is being developed by the Korean manufacturer specifically for battery-electric models.
Some details about the new electric sedan became known thanks to "leaked" in the network schedule of production of new cars Kia. The schedule was published by The Korean Car Blog website.
According to the leaked information, the electric replacement for the Kia Stinger is codenamed GT1. However, once the GT1 rolls into the assembly line at Kia's Hwaseong plant, it will be renamed EV8. The company plans to launch production of these cars in 2026.
Some previously unknown technical details were also revealed. It became known. that the sedan will receive a massive battery pack with a capacity of 113.2 kWh. This will make it the largest in the history of the Korean automaker. In comparison, the Kia EV9 has a battery pack with a capacity of up to 99.8 kWh.
The EV8 will have a 200 kW (268 hp) front engine and a 250 kW (225 hp) rear engine, totalling 450 kW (603 hp). This will make the Stinger successor the brand's most powerful car.
Kia will also use other equipment configurations for the cheaper versions of the EV8. The base version will get a single 160 kW (218 hp) rear-mounted electric motor. The all-wheel drive model will add another 160 kW motor at the front to reach a total output of 320 kW (435 hp).
The GT1 / EV8 is expected to be able to travel between 700 and 800 kilometres on a single full charge. By comparison, the Mercedes-Benz EQS' largest battery to date (107.8 kWh) provides a range of up to 750 kilometres under the European WLTP cycle.
