The VW ID.7 Tourer has the same length and wheelbase as the ID.7 liftback, but its boot is roomier and much more practical.

The new ID.7 Tourer is the production version of the concept ID. Space Vizzion for 2019. This vehicle completes Volkswagen's European range of combustion-engined station wagons, which includes the Golf Variant, Passat Variant and Arteon Shooting Brake.

The VW ID.7 Tourer measures 4,961 mm in length, 1,862 mm in width and 1,536 mm in height. The wheelbase size is 2,971 mm. This means that the station wagon has not become larger than the regular ID.7.

In fact, only the rear part of the car has changed. The boot volume has increased by 73 litres, up to 605 litres. If the backrests of the rear seats are folded down, the boot will hold 1,714 litres, 128 litres more than the ID.7. An additional roof rack with a capacity of 460 litres can also be fitted. Incidentally, the BMW i5 Touring has approximately the same boot (570 - 1,700 litres)

However, the main advantage of the station wagon is the convenient shape of the luggage compartment, which makes it easier to transport large loads. In the rear of the ID.7 Tourer, items up to 1,075 millimetres in length can be stored without folding down the rear seats. If the seats are folded down, the maximum length of the load to be carried is 1,948 millimetres. The width between the wheel arches in the boot is exactly 1,000 millimetres.

The ID.7 Tourer inherits from the regular ID.7 the optional panoramic sunroof with variable light transmission. This option has been used for many years in supercars and luxury models, but is gradually beginning to spread to more mainstream models.

The rear axle of the VW ID.7 Tourer features the same rear electric motor as in the liftback. Its output is 282 horsepower (210 kW) and torque is 545 Nm. First to go on sale will be the Pro version with a battery with a useful capacity of 77 kWh, as well as the Pro S with a larger 86 kWh battery. A similar battery is planned for the liftback.

VW does not mention all-wheel drive versions, but it is likely that, following the example of the ID.4, there will be 210 and 250 kW versions later.

The manufacturer does not specify the range of the ID.7 Tourer. For the Pro S version, the power reserve of 685 kilometres in the WLTP cycle is declared. In addition to the battery capacity, the power reserve is also affected by the size of the wheels, which varies from 19 to 21 inches.

Standard equipment on the ID.7 Pro includes LED lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, keyless entry and engine start, luggage net, projection display with augmented reality, rearview camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated seats and IDA voice assistant with integrated artificial intelligence ChatGPT.

The VW ID.7 Tourer will be produced at the same Emden plant in Germany where VW assembles the regular ID.7 and ID.4. Pricing and exact market launch date have not yet been announced. The ID.7 Pro sedan is available now in Germany with prices starting at €56,995. The station wagon will probably be around €2,000 more expensive. At around €59,000, it will be around €13,000 cheaper than the BMW i5 Tourer.
