BYD has prepared a new product for the Geneva Motor Show 2024 - a plug-in hybrid Seal U DM-i. Externally, the Seal U DM-i differs from the electric Seal U by thin air intakes at the front of the car, otherwise it is almost identical.
The BYD Seal U DM-i measures 4.77 metres in length, slightly shorter than the electric Seal U, while the width remains unchanged at 1.89 metres and the height is 1.67 metres. 19-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone paint scheme will be available for the model.

The new BYD Seal U DM-i has five seats with leather upholstery. The most noticeable interior element is the 15.6-inch touchscreen on the centre console. Below the screen are the ventilation ducts and a pad with wireless charging for two smartphones. Nearby, you can notice the original transmission selector with crystal design. The multimedia system supports voice commands and is updated over-the-air (OTA).
The backrests of the rear seats fold down in a 60:40 ratio. The boot space of the BYD Seal U DM-i ranges from 552 to 1,440 litres.

BYD promises a "Pulse Heating" system that improves thermal efficiency by 10 per cent. If desired, the Seal U DM-i can be equipped with a constant current charging system that can increase the energy reserve from 30 to 80 per cent in 35 minutes.
The rest of the technical information for Europe is still secret. But judging by the versions for the Chinese market, we can assume that the Seal U DM-i will have a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 110bhp under the bonnet, supplemented by a 197bhp electric motor. Two battery packs are also available in China: 18.3 and 26.6 kWh. These batteries offer up to 110 and 150 kilometres of electric driving range in the NEDC cycle, respectively. Obviously, the range will be less in the tougher WLTP cycle.
BYD Seal U DM-i prices are yet to be announced. They will probably be lower than the all-electric version of this model, which starts at 44,990 euros.
