Mercedes-Benz has unveiled their latest innovation, an electric version of the iconic G-Class. The new model is equipped with four electric motors, one for each wheel. This configuration not only improves power output to 432 kW (580 hp) but also boosts torque to 1,164 Nm, surpassing the combustion engine-powered AMG G63.

The electric G-Class excels in both speed and off-road capability. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds with a top speed limited to 180 km/h for safety. Off-road features are enhanced with an 85-centimeter fording depth and the ability to climb a lateral slope of 35 degrees.

This model introduces advanced technology tailored for challenging terrains. It includes low-range modes, a crawl function, virtual differential locks through torque vectoring, and adaptive adjustable dampers.

The G580 with EQ Technology features a front independent suspension and a solid rear axle, along with underbody protection that employs carbon and other robust materials to safeguard the substantial 116.0-kilowatt-hour battery encased within the ladder frame. Range remains uncertain, but it is known that the battery can be charged at up to 200 kilowatts. A direct current (DC) connection will result in a charge time of approximately 32 minutes, from 10 to 80 percent.

Design-wise, it maintains the traditional rugged look of the G-Class but integrates modern elements such as a closed-off grille with illumination and aerodynamic enhancements like air curtains. Inside, the vehicle flaunts high-tech features alongside luxury finishes that include blue carbon fiber trim with meticulous stitching and large digital interfaces.

Scheduled to hit showrooms in the United States in various distinct colors like South Sea Blue Magno and Arabian Grey, this electric model will be available as "Edition One" first. Despite lacking a specific launch date, it's expected to command around 200,000 euros in Germany when released.
