These new vans will offer both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options. Mercedes plans to start producing them in 2026. The VAN.EA platform, which stands for Mercedes‑Benz Van Electric Architecture, is designed to be modular, flexible, and scalable. It'll be used for medium and large vans, catering to both luxury private customers and premium commercial clients.
The prototypes in the photos show off some new features, even though most of the bodywork is hidden under camouflage and padding. We can see new headlights, door handles that sit flush with the body, and a more modern greenhouse. The front of the van looks more upright, the mirrors have been moved to the doors, and the rear liftgate has been tweaked.
For private customers, Mercedes will offer family vans, VIP shuttles, and spacious limousines. Commercial customers will get premium vans with lots of customization options.
These vans will use an 800V electrical system and come with a 22 kW AC charger. They'll also run on the latest version of the Mercedes‑Benz Operating System. The luxury private vans are expected to have a range of over 500 km (311 miles).
When it comes to autonomous driving, private vans will launch with a Level 2 semi-autonomous system. By 2030, Mercedes aims to upgrade this to a Level 3 system. For commercial vans, the company is looking even further ahead, with plans for Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities in the future.
