The RAV-X Concept stands taller and wider than its everyday counterpart. Toyota's team raised the ground clearance by 2.0 inches (51 mm) and widened the track by 6.3 inches (160 mm). They achieved this with custom-made parts like forged aluminum front control arms and rear upper supports.
The suspension got a major upgrade too. The concept now sports fully adjustable 2.5-inch internal bypass shocks. The front shocks have external reservoirs, while the rear ones use piggyback reservoirs. These changes should make the RAV-X much more capable off the beaten path.
The RAV-X rolls on 17-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped in beefy 265/65R17 rubber. These chunky tires will help the concept tackle rough terrain with ease.
Toyota RAV-X concept
The design team gave the RAV-X a rally-inspired look that's both functional and eye-catching. They added a new front bumper with integrated cooling ducts and custom ventilated front fender flares.
Other rugged touches include raised rocker panels, front and rear skid plates, and a sporty rear spoiler. A dual exhaust system pokes through the rear bumper, adding to the concept's aggressive stance.
While the RAV-X Concept looks ready for action, it's important to note that it's just that – a concept. Toyota's Parts and Accessories Development department created it from initial sketches to final assembly. The concept could hint at future capabilities for Toyota's SUVs, but don't expect to see a production version anytime soon.
The RAV-X Concept proves that even family-friendly SUVs can have a wild side. While most RAV4s will stick to city streets and highways, it's fun to imagine one tackling sand dunes or rocky trails. For now, off-road enthusiasts will have to admire the RAV-X from afar at the SEMA Show.
