This truck is the first of its kind in Europe and the first electric vehicle in the CEVA Logistics fleet. The batteries are charged between trips or at the end of the day at a special charging station in Marly-La-Ville.
The goal of the pilot project is to evaluate the efficiency of electric vehicles in urban and suburban transport. Every day, the truck covers a 270-kilometre route, and the total mileage for the entire test period will be 30,000 km. The pilot phase is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2025, after which the results of the telemetry data analysis will decide the future of the project.
The partners have not provided any details about the electric truck involved in the trial. However, the published photo shows a Volvo FM Electric tractor with a car carrier from the French company Lohr.
BMW Group France plans to expand electric transport of new cars if this concept proves to be effective. At the same time, the parent company, BMW Group, has ambitious sustainability plans to reduce CO₂ emissions in production by 40% by 2030 and increase the share of electric cars to 50% of global sales. For Europe, this figure should be even higher.
CEVA Logistics is also actively investing in low-carbon transport solutions: it currently has more than 450 electric trucks in its European fleet, and by 2025 this figure will increase to 1,450 units, which will account for two-thirds of the fleet. The testing of the electric car haulage truck is part of the company's strategy to develop sustainable transport.
