Audi has revealed on its social media pages a concept of an electric SUV based on the Q6 Sportback E-Tron, fitted with portal axles for improved off-road capability.

The published images show that the Q6 Sportback E-Tron has received a significant suspension lift, aggressive Venom Power Terra Hunter X/T tyres and widened wheel arches. A roof rack with additional lighting has been fitted and additional lights have been placed under the main headlights. The front bumper has been modified to improve the angle of entry.

Portal axles are designed to improve the off-road capability of the vehicles. The axle axle is located above the wheel axle, and between them there is a special gearbox. However, this design has negative effects: reduced speed, acceleration dynamics and handling. Therefore, portal axles are practically not found on production cars.

Audi does not specify whether this concept is based on the standard version of the Q6 E-Tron or the more powerful SQ6 E-Tron. In the production version, the SQ6 is equipped with two electric motors with a combined output of 360 kW (up to 380 kW with Launch Control activated), enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. Top speed is limited at 230 km/h and a 94.9 kWh battery provides a range of up to 598 kilometres on the WLTP cycle.

There is no information yet about the possibility of series production of this SUV with portal axles, but the very fact that it has been developed was a pleasant surprise on Audi's part.
